Races

Races in Runtool — plan them on the calendar, set priority and goal time, and feed results back into your zones.

A race is a workout with a job: it anchors your season. Races live on the Calendar like any workout, but carry race-specific properties and get race treatment across the app.

Race properties

  • Date — race day on the calendar.
  • Priority — A, B, or C. Your A race (your goal race) is what the season builds toward; B races are meaningful rehearsals; C races are training with a bib.
  • Distance — 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, ultra, or other.
  • Goal time — the target you're training for.

Racing and results

On race day the race behaves like any workout: your recorded activity matches to it and the completion carries the result. The result is more than a diary entry — a race is the most reliable fitness signal there is.

Results feed your zones

A race result can anchor your training zones directly: the Zones section of the Athlete settings accepts a race result as the zone-definition method. Race well, update zones, and next week's paces reflect the runner you are now — the training loop closing exactly as designed.

Coaches and races

A new race in the plan raises a notification in the athlete's Inbox, so race planning between coach and athlete never happens silently.

FAQ

How is a race different from a hard workout? Structurally it's a workout with the race category — but it carries priority, distance category, and goal time, and its result can define your zones.
Can I plan more than one A race? Yes, though the A label works best when it's rare — priorities exist to make the season's hierarchy explicit.
