Unit system

Metric and imperial units in Runtool — what the setting controls and where to change it.

Runtool displays every pace and distance in either metric or imperial units. The setting lives in Settings → Calendar → Unit system for each athlete workspace.

What the setting controls

ValueMetricImperial
Distancekm, mmi, yd
Pacemin/kmmin/mi
Speedkm/hmph
Elevationmft

The unit system applies everywhere in the workspace: workout targets, zone tables, completion data, and charts. When you type a workout you can use either system — 8x1km / 200m or 4x1mi / 0.25mi — and Runtool displays the result in the workspace's unit system. See Workout notation for the full syntax.

Per-athlete, not per-account

The unit system is a workspace preference — it belongs to the athlete, not to whoever is looking. A coach with athletes in both systems sees each workspace in that athlete's units. See Athlete settings for how workspace preferences scope.

FAQ

Does changing the unit system change my data? No. Runtool stores everything in metric internally and converts for display. Switching back and forth loses nothing.
Can I mix units — miles for distance but min/km for pace? Not for display. The unit system is a single switch per workspace: distance, pace, speed, and elevation all follow it. Typing is separate — you can write a workout in either system, in any mix, and it is displayed in the workspace's units. See [Workout notation](/docs/workout-notation).
