Getting started

Coaching

Coaching with Runtool — build your roster, invite athletes, and plan for them from day one.

Runtool gives coaches a full workspace per athlete and one place to see them all. This page covers the coach-side flow; the Start guide covers account setup.

Your roster

Athletes is your home as a coach: every athlete you work with, with their workspace one click away. The sidebar roster jumps between workspaces without losing your place.

Each athlete carries a status — one label that answers whether they need you this week, reading their account, their training load and their plan together. You can filter the roster by it, so everyone who needs a plan is one click away. See Athletes for what each status means and how it is worked out.

Adding an athlete

Add an athlete by name and their workspace is created on the spot — you can import history, set zones, and plan weeks before they've signed up. Coaching doesn't wait for onboarding.

When you're ready to bring them in, generate an invitation link and share it however you like. The athlete opens the link, signs in, and lands in the workspace you prepared — plan, zones, and all.

What the athlete sees

Everything. An athlete workspace has no coach-only compartment: the athlete sees the same calendar, the same zones, the same load charts you do. Transparency is the point — athletes who understand their plan execute it better.

Planning for athletes

Inside an athlete's workspace you plan exactly as an athlete would — same Calendar, same quick text workout creation, same Runtool Agent. Each workspace carries its own settings, so athletes in different timezones or unit systems just work.

Plans several athletes share are worth writing once. Templates are reusable weeks that belong to you rather than to any athlete: write a block there, then apply it to as many athletes as you want in one go.

Ending a relationship

Ending coaching lives under Settings → Athletes → the athlete → Coaching, alongside the date the relationship started. It removes your access to that workspace; the athlete keeps their training data, and the action cannot be undone. See Athlete settings.

Staying in the loop

The Inbox collects your whole roster's activity in one stream — completions, reported feedback, imported activities, load warnings — filterable per athlete. Direct messages with each athlete live in the same place, and plan reminders nudge you when an athlete's calendar is running out of planned workouts.

Once a week you also get a weekly recap: your whole roster in one email, led by the athletes who need you. Each line names their status, the reason for it, and the week behind it — so an athlete who has gone quiet is named, not dropped. See Inbox for what the recap covers and how to preview it.

FAQ

What does the athlete need to pay? Nothing. A coaching plan (Coach or Pro) covers coach features across your roster; athletes join on the free tier.
Can I coach myself with the same account? Yes. Set your account mode to both athlete and coach, and your own training workspace sits alongside your roster.
